KWIC: KeyWord In Context

KeyWord In Context (KWIC) is a permuted index in which the title of a document (and sometimes the text) is used to illustrate the meaning of a keyword used as an entry. The term was first coined by Hans Peter Luhn in 1958 and first proposed for Manchester libraries in 1864 by librarian Andrea Crestadoro.
